Bronze level with original box "Ch.Bianchetti & Cie" Marseille
19th century level Ch.Bianchetti Marseille, in its original camphor box.
The length of the telescope is 41cm and in excellent condition.
The dimensions of the trunk is 44 x 23 x 23cm.
Missing the carrying handle on the right side.
Its design is typical of what we would expect from the 19th and early 20th century, very similar to the level of Egault and Theodolite Eyewear Company in the collection.
The level has a circular frame that supports the telescope as it rotates around its main axis. This type of level of its typical circular base was invented by Etienne Lenoir (1744-1832) in 1820 and further enhanced by the Dutch firm Geodesic Instruments Bayens in 1825.
Instrument is a surveyor level a theodolite has a vertical scale of 360 degrees to measure vertical angles.
Bianchetti was founded in 1826. The level probably dates from the middle of the 19th century.
